  • Haiti is the poorest Western country with 80% of the population in poverty and 54% in abject poverty, living on less than $1 a day.
  • 81% of people in Haiti do not get the minimum daily ration of food defined by the World Health Organization.
  • Haiti has the second largest income disparity in the world. Over 68% of income accrues to the wealthiest 20%, while less than 1.5% is accumulated by the poorest 20%.
  • 66% of Haiti's population does not have access to adequate sanitation.
  • The infant mortality rate in Haiti is 16.75%. 33% of haiti children don't live to see their 5th birthday.
  • 47% of Haitians over the age of 15 are illiterate.
